1st Australian Space Education Forum
Presented by the Andy Thomas Space Foundation, the 1st Australian Space Education Forum will showcase space education, career opportunities and future pathways into Australia’s growing space industry.
Designed with teachers and high school students in mind, this event will provide a valuable opportunity to hear from leaders across the space ecosystem, access specialised programs to drive space education in schools, and inspire the next generation of Australia’s space industry.
Delivered with the support of the Australian Space Agency, this FREE event is a must for teachers, career practitioners and high school students!
Program
The 1ˢᵗ Australian Space Education Forum (ASEF) will provide the perfect opportunity to stimulate ideas, support the professional development of teachers, and inspire students and attendees of all ages to engage with Australia’s exciting and innovative space ecosystem.
The ASEF will be divided into key sessions, with tailored content for high school students, as well as university students, industry representatives and members of the general public.
High School Students Session
12:00pm – 2:00pm
Students from Year 7 – Year 11, along with teachers, career advisors and school leaders, will learn about space career journeys, new career pathways within the Australian space industry, and be inspired to pursue their future place in space!
Session Three: Public Session
3:00pm – 5:00pm
Members of the general public, tertiary students and industry representatives are invited to learn how to become space career ready, and to gain insight on the growing range of industry opportunities available in Western Australia and beyond.
Meet our Australian Astronaut:
Katherine Bennell-Pegg
The Andy Thomas Space Foundation, alongside the Australian Space Agency, are proud to welcome Australian Astronaut, Ms. Katherine Bennell-Pegg to the Australian Space Education Forum.
The first astronaut trained under the Australian flag, Ms. Katherine Bennell-Pegg will share insights and perspectives from her life and career, including a live Q&A as part of our High School Students Session and a special guest presentation in our Public Session.
Student Attendance
We recommend that Teachers and Schools seeking to attend with large classes or groups of students adopt the following approach:
- Send a teacher (or group of teachers) from your school to Session 1 (9:00am – 11:00am).
- Have the group of students you wish to attend arrive at the venue between 11:00am and 12:00pm, accompanied by an additional teacher or staff as required.
- Teachers from Session 1 and any accompanying teachers/staff arriving with students attend Session 2.
- Teachers and students depart between 2:00pm and 3:00pm (if intending to return to school before end of school day).
* Teachers are asked to please note that at this stage, there is no formal activity planned for students during Session 1 (9:00am – 11:00am).
Financial Assistance

Department of Education school staff in Western Australia may be able to access funding to assist with the cost of transport and other expenses via the Australian Government’s Defence Industry Schools Pathways Program 2024–26.

Department of Education school staff in Western Australia may be able to access funding to assist with the cost of transport and other expenses to help students and teachers attend the Australian Space Education Forum via the Australian Government’s Defence Industry Schools Pathways Program 2024–26. Educators seeking to apply for financial support can access guidelines and information on application processes through Ikon (the Department’s intranet – staff only).
