An immersive four-day professional development program empowering educators for the future of space

Tuesday 30 September – Friday 3 October 2025
The University of Sydney

Sydney, New South Wales

Held at the University of Sydney, and delivered as an official side-event of the 76th International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2025), the Australian Space Curriculum Collaborative (ASCC) will offer Australian teachers a unique professional development opportunity supported by direct engagement with global space leaders, and form the basis for an Australian community of teaching and learning practice that collaborates with international space educators to share resources and expertise.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The Australian Space Curriculum Collaborative will include:

  • Hands-on workshops, seminars, and expert panels
  • Special access to the Optus Belrose Earth Station
  • Model CubeSat construction with Robinson Aerospace
  • Interactive STEM demonstrations by Fizzics Education
  • Insights from world-class educators including Professor Eddie Woo and Professor Scott Sleap
  • Networking with international experts, peers, and future collaborators

 

and will culminate in the development of new, innovative Australian Curriculum-aligned teaching resources to support the use of space science as a dynamic and engaging medium for STEM education.

PROGRAM PARTNERS

The ASCC is a joint initiative between the University of Sydney, the Aldrin Family Foundation, The Andy Thomas Space Foundation and the NSW Department of Education.

RECOGNITION AND ACCREDITATION

ASCC participants will also be eligible to apply for recognition through the Aldrin Family/Andy Thomas Ambassador Program – a formal accreditation awarded in recognition of excellence in space education.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

The Andy Thomas Space Foundation is proudly providing 7 scholarships of $1,000 each to enable Australian educators to attend the ASCC in 2025. 

One scholarship is available in each Australian State or Territory outside of New South Wales.

Applications are now open, and close on Friday 28 June, 2025.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be a registered, practicing teacher, curriculum leader, or school leader currently employed by a school or formally recognised learning institution in Australia.
  • Be willing and able to attend all four days of the ASCC program, to be held at the University of Sydney in Sydney, NSW from Tuesday 30 September – Friday 3 October 2025 (scholarships are intended to assist with travel and accommodation).
  • Live and work outside of the state of New South Wales (alternative funding and financial support opportunities are available for New South Wales residents).
  • Complete the application process for the Australian Space Curriculum Collective through the NSW Department for Education STEM Industry School Partnerships website.

To apply for an ASCC Scholarship, interested teachers and school leaders are asked to prepare responses (up to 250 words each) to the following questions:

  • What is the current level of space education in your state/territory? Please provide any examples of previous engagement with industry, programs or curriculum relating to space.
  • How can your specific state/ territory benefit from your learnings at ASCC?
  • What makes you interested in becoming a space education champion in your state/territory?
  • How you will share the knowledge and resources obtained through the ASCC with others in your professional network/ state/territory?
